You Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup
Think about the people you lead. You show up for them every single day. You carry the vision, absorb the pressure and hold the room together even when you feel like falling apart. And most of the time nobody asks how you are doing.
“Leadership is not a title. It is a daily decision to grow yourself so you can grow the people around you.”
Here is something worth trying. At the end of this week sit down and ask yourself three honest questions. What drained me? What filled me up? What did I avoid that I know I need to face? Those answers will tell you more about your leadership than any review or report ever could. The greatest investment you will ever make is in the leader looking back at you in the mirror.
The One Thing Every Leader Needs to Hear Right Now
With everything moving so fast it is easy to mistake motion for progress. But the data is telling a different story. Leader engagement just hit one of its lowest points in years. Managers are being stretched thinner than ever and many are wearing exhaustion like it is proof of their commitment.
Research from DDI’s Global Leadership Forecast found that 71% of leaders are reporting increased stress in their roles and 40% are considering walking away entirely. Let that sink in. Nearly half of the leaders in your world are one bad quarter away from quitting. Not because they do not care. Because nobody is pouring into them.
The leaders who last are not the toughest ones in the room. They are the most self aware. They know when they are running low and they do something about it before it costs them everything.
This week: Name one thing that is quietly draining you that you have not said out loud yet. Awareness is always the first step toward change.
New to the S.H.I.F.T. Family
Every month we get to do one of our favorite things — welcome leaders who decided that growing themselves is worth investing in. These organizations chose to pour into their people and we are honored to walk alongside them.
